Global Alert, how to make a cross-platform application

I have been developing applications for mobile devices and AJAX developments for several years, and I thought the idea of merging both was great. After studying many frameworks, I came to the conclusion that the one that best suited my needs was Phonegap, which with the purchase by Adobe after a while I realized that it was not exactly a mistake.

PhoneGap is an HTML5 application platform that allows you to author native applications with web technologies and gain access to APIs and app stores. Leverage web technologies to developers who already know best… HTML and JavaScript

inSSIDer, wifi scanner

To do good as well as to do evil, a Wi-Fi network scanner is almost essential, and although the shell attracts a lot, seeing moving colors has attracted us all since childhood.

inSSIDer is a beautiful, simple scanner, although with a technical visualization, and above all multiplatform.

When setting up a Wi-Fi network, whether your home or a more extensive one, it is advisable to view the frequency spectrum that covers said area. And since today our eyes are not capable of switching to Wi-Fi mode, with this program we can make the task easier in a graphic and simple way.

MyWay code generator

A few days ago, Luis Molina informed me of the new launch of his code generator, completely renewed and with more energy than ever, it has also been renamed, its new name is ….. MyWay.

MyWay is a generator made in C#, capable of facilitating your task by giving you the work of an entire morning or even days, in seconds, not only for projects in C# but also Visual Basic .NET, and even the possibility of creating your own templates so they work in other programming languages. There are also different possibilities of connecting to various Databases.

Control WiiMote from C#

I had been hearing about the simplicity of the WiiMoteLib for a while, but since I hadn’t put the Wii through my hands I hadn’t been able to touch them, I finally have the WiiMote at home, and obviously I had to start messing around. This is a simple code on how to connect and take some accelerometer readings, ideal for getting into the use of this device.

First we connect with any program Bluetooth device manager, to the WiiMote by pressing buttons 1 and 2 at the same time, and we connect it as a mouse, human interface, HID, … or whatever your manager calls it.

Ajax and \"Access Denied\" cross-domain with an IFrame

One of the big problems we have when it comes to web security are the dreaded “cross-site scripting” attacks. Something that browsers like IE (Internet Explorer) solve with the default denial of access to scripts that are hosted on domains other than those of our application. Something that other browsers have not chosen to carry from the beginning.

This leads us to the fact that if we have to embed our development within a third-party iframe, both hosted on different servers, our application will work perfectly in Firefox, Safari, ….. but not in IE, giving us the “Access is denied” error to that script.

Charles Simonyi or how to write code

Since I haven’t written for a while, the best way I have found to get back on track is by remembering (in my opinion) the father of notation in programming. This gentleman of Hungarian origin has been working for many years on lesser-known Microsoft projects, Word, Excel, … I don’t know if they are familiar to you ;)

Charles Simonyi

And we are not going to talk about his next space trip, but about the “Hungarian Notation”, obviously at the time when this nomemclature was proposed it was based on using some prefixes before each variable:

How IIS or Apache does not protect and how we insist on being vulnerable

A proposal for the new year, to be a little safer than we sometimes dare to practice, we all know truisms such as that our web server with .NET support will never allow us to serve certain files, such as any file within the bin directory, some such as web.config, and some more that we are never interested in having rescued, given that they usually contain compromised information.

Saving the connection strings in the web.config is an option used by everyone, given the ease of rescuing this information in our web application, and being able to port it from one server to another, but ……..

SilverLight's rival is seeing the light

Flex Builder Alpha has been released for GNU/Linux, Flex is Adobe’s response to interactive applications on the web. We could go so far as to say that it is an evolution of Flash.

Flex

And why do I say that it is the direct rival? Basically because the natural evolution of a developer with Flash will be easier to adapt to this new environment based on the same philosophy, we will see if he is able to withstand the pull of SilverLight that Visual Studio provides and the free support of MoonLight. There is also a hypothetical one JavaFX, about which you hear about but nothing is seen ;)

The war of the N, beyond the Framework

Free software is not just a bunch of crazy people, who do not go beyond throwing command lines, but communities of restless minds, and since .NET is “the first great framework” and is a good product, the community has been created around it. Now we go a little beyond the framework, entering the life that is born near it.

Given the power that .NET gives us, tools are born around it to continue complementing it, of which we should also be very knowledgeable (at least of some).

Windows 2008 Beta 3, regaining trust

After several months of testing Windows Vista it once again gives me a similar impression to the one I got with Windows ME, a little better, but not much, I see it as unstable, a lover of killing applications, or causing them to commit suicide, and most importantly of inferior usability, I will never get tired of repeating “The Office guys should give usability lessons to the View.”

But I took a little time and tried Windows 2008 without a virtual machine, (I have just piled up 100 positive adjectives to describe it). It follows the philosophy of Windows 2003, which in my opinion is “Let’s make something that works.” Even though it is Beta, it has stability to mention, it is possible to enable almost all, if not all, the graphical functionalities of Vista, and above all IT IS VERY FAST!!!.
