inSSIDer, wifi scanner

To do good as well as to do evil, a Wi-Fi network scanner is almost essential, and although the shell attracts a lot, seeing moving colors has attracted us all since childhood.

inSSIDer is a beautiful, simple scanner, although with a technical visualization, and above all multiplatform.

When setting up a Wi-Fi network, whether your home or a more extensive one, it is advisable to view the frequency spectrum that covers said area. And since today our eyes are not capable of switching to Wi-Fi mode, with this program we can make the task easier in a graphic and simple way.

Office 2007 under Linux (wine)

Although Libreoffice is receiving a big push lately from both Oracle and IBM with the transfer of Symphony, it must be recognized that the ribbons of Ms Office 2007 continue to be of great usability, along with other correction features, and obviously compatibility with docx. Therefore, on certain occasions its use is recommended.

In this case we are going to see how to run it from Debian without excessive problems. First we update to the latest version of Wine

Control WiiMote from C#

I had been hearing about the simplicity of the WiiMoteLib for a while, but since I hadn’t put the Wii through my hands I hadn’t been able to touch them, I finally have the WiiMote at home, and obviously I had to start messing around. This is a simple code on how to connect and take some accelerometer readings, ideal for getting into the use of this device.

First we connect with any program Bluetooth device manager, to the WiiMote by pressing buttons 1 and 2 at the same time, and we connect it as a mouse, human interface, HID, … or whatever your manager calls it.

Windows Server 2008 Book

After my last book written, I return to the fray with a new success that every beginner in systems administration should have (which is not because it is mine, ;) ).   This book is aimed at both users with experience working with server environments and those who want to get started in the field of systems administration by managing various types of services.

The chapters have been structured to facilitate the study and based on the necessary steps that are usually taken in the assembly of all services for a company from its inception. I hope you like it, by the way, I promise a beer to everyone who shows me their purchase!! that is cheap!!

SSH tunnels through a firewall

Sometimes it is necessary for us to bypass a firewall to perform certain tasks. Usually because we have left work pending and we intend to get home and continue with the task. Unfortunately, today not all companies agree with teleworking, nor do they have their systems prepared for it, this means that we have to find tricks to access our machine.

First, a hole must be opened to establish communications from a PC inside the firewall to another PC, with an ssh server,

Extend Vista or Windows 2008 evaluation period

Although it may seem annoying to have to introduce a license, Microsoft has become a little more permissive lately. As we all know, the installation of the fully functional Operating System is allowed without having the license number at hand, leaving us a period of 30/60 days to enter it.

It may always be the case that due to excessive workload, or for virtual machines, we cannot or are not interested in introducing a license and simply evaluating it for a limited time. Therefore, the permissiveness has been greater, giving us the possibility of extending this period with a command to manage the licenses.

Virtualization in Windows 2008 RC0 and more..

With the release of the RC0 version that Elias Mereb informed us a few days ago, they are beginning to be completed with documentation of all kinds, Erick, informs us today of the release of a NON-technical document to guide us on how Microsoft sees virtualization and the services of this type that Windows 2008 incorporates

And by the way, I can’t help but recommend the very basic downloads, which are never a bad thing to read, even if it’s just to relax a little during a monotonous work day:

[Tip/Trick] How to include LaBloguera.NET as a search engine in IE7

Echoing a post by our colleague eecsaky, I can’t help but “barrer pa’ casa”, :P

 ————————————————————————————————————————————————-

Those of you who use Internet Explorer 7 will know that there is a search engine at the top right, in which we can change the search provider, pages like Codeproject already include their own search engine there, but what happens if we don’t have it like LaBloguera.NET? Well, relatively simple. In the list of suppliers click on search for more suppliers.

Windows 2008 Beta 3, regaining trust

After several months of testing Windows Vista it once again gives me a similar impression to the one I got with Windows ME, a little better, but not much, I see it as unstable, a lover of killing applications, or causing them to commit suicide, and most importantly of inferior usability, I will never get tired of repeating “The Office guys should give usability lessons to the View.”

But I took a little time and tried Windows 2008 without a virtual machine, (I have just piled up 100 positive adjectives to describe it). It follows the philosophy of Windows 2003, which in my opinion is “Let’s make something that works.” Even though it is Beta, it has stability to mention, it is possible to enable almost all, if not all, the graphical functionalities of Vista, and above all IT IS VERY FAST!!!.

IE7 is already in Windows Update

Yes, gentlemen, I just missed the notice on my Windows 2003 saying that the update to IE7 is now available, so all users who wish can now have tabs in their IE, and also comply with a greater number of the standards.

I still have a question, would you update to IE7 on a production server? Since Windows is internally based on this browser, we could compromise our system if the logical bugs of the first weeks appear.
