Resize Xen partition with LVM
It is not strange that when sizing a virtual machine we have certain project specifications which change over time, and the need to increase disk space may be essential.
At first glance it may seem like a tedious task and you may start to tremble at the possible loss of data, but after a good prayer, a strong coffee and a win these fears disappear, leaving behind some simple steps described below.
First we prepare the physical machine that contains the LVS by increasing the size, for example 50GB more: # lvextend –size +50GB /dev/VolGroup00/lvMachineNamePartitionData
Now we enter the virtual machine and turn it off so that it can recognize the new partition # halt
We start the machine again and enter it. # fdisk /dev/sdX
Now we have to enlarge the existing partition, changing the Start and End of the partition blocks, we only have to restart the machine: # reboot
And readjust the partition’s file system to take the new sizes. # resize2fs /dev/sdX1
Now you can enjoy your new partition with an extra 50Gb.
