As many of you know, lately I’m getting closer to the world of aviation, and as is obvious my “gadget” is being reoriented towards various new topics.

What is the Air Band?

The air band is a radio frequency between 118 and 136 MHz, which are reserved for aircraft communications and control centers, the VHF spectrum is used given the clarity of the signal. For commercial and private aviation, communications are carried out unencrypted and can be captured by any device prepared for it.

Of course, transmission on these frequencies in certain areas is illegal, and interfering with signals such as airports and others is penalized. Anyone who controls a little radio frequency knows that it takes very little time to triangulate and locate the emitter.

There is a special frequency, 121.5 Mhz, which is reserved for emergency situations, in which there is always a person alert in case a critical situation arises in which special attention is necessary.

Today I would like to share with you an interesting video on how to build an airband radio with a traditional radio, that is, jump from 107MHz to the frequencies used by airports.

But not all communications are plain, especially if we talk about military air bases, they use coding systems to avoid being deciphered, and although it is not the purpose of this article, I would not like to finish without saying that there is also software dedicated to the decoding of these signals, such as:
