[Tip/Trick] Unconfigured keyboard in Gnome
When dealing with unstable or experimental distributions, in certain updates it is possible that the keyboard is not configured correctly, losing the possibility of including signs entered using “Alt Gr” or even accent marks. It may happen that when trying to configure it from “gnome-keyboard-properties” we get the feeling that it doesn’t pay attention to us.
The problem lies in a bad initial configuration of the file /etc/X11/xorg.conf in the InputDevice section, since we did not assign the variant, the correct configuration would be:
_Section “InputDevice”
Identifier “Generic Keyboard”
Driver “kbd”
Option “XkbRules” “xorg”
Option “XkbModel” “pc105”
Option “XkbLayout” “en”
Option “XkbVariant” “basic”
EndSection
_
Once corrected, all that remains is to restart the graphical environment and write correctly.
There is also the possibility of changing it by launching a command, only this will not be left for subsequent machine starts:
# setxkbmap -model pc105 -layout es -variant basic
